Italia 2º Set 2012. 17x24, Pen & Watercolor

..
Florence 26.9.12, a random “palazzo” detail,"modern" in that city's time, where things are measured in centuries, not years. The heat was heavy, so I sheltered underneath some branches, but the angle was worth it.
Via Delle Oche, Bologna.
.
Via Delle Oche, Bologna.. A forgotten alley over which there are is poetry written nor lovers walk throuh it in any movie.
But with a wonderful attribute: In the three hours I was sitting there -always in the shadow on a scorching noon- I had to pick up my stool only twice to let a car go thru..
At the Via Monte Grappa, in Bologna, late in the day I found the Palace Hotel. The hotel was nothing much. But I bet in that room on the right, under that huge neon sign, the Italian Philip Marlowe would be hiding from the mob late tonight, a half empty bourbon bottle by the bedside, and a gun under the pillow.
.

Some street in the wild medieval zig zag in San Gimignano, Italy.
It was raining madly, and I got stuck under this arch. I had to draw SOMETHING from there, since it looked (as was) as I was in for a long wait.
And then, a known feeling: (same thing in photo) Sometimes, when there are not so many options and the field is narrower, one focus and works better.. .
I focused on the umbrellas.
...

La "Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio" is a great building of Bologna that collects the patrimony of religious congregations dissolved by the provisions of the Napoleonic period (1797-1798) and the Kingdom of Italy.
When I was there restoration works were in process at this Gallery. The sculpted stuff over that door was so intricate that unless one looked carefully it all looked as a black mass. But the scaffolder was there, so I did my best with that massive dark "Oyster" (waiting for the intermittent waves of turists to clear the view)
This the "Palazzo Comunale" in Bologna as view from Piazza Di Galileo. I took a hit on working watercolors in a monochrome palette, so i mixed freely Payne´s gray and Indigo, and came to this.
I am not sure about the big area shadows. Either they are too or too little dirty...
